The Marshmallow Drop is an event every kid in Miami Shores looks forward to, no matter the age (I am so glad that I have the perfect excuse to be a part of it since I have kids). Every year, the Saturday before Easter, a helicopter will drop over 10,000 marshmallows over the Miami Shores Recreation fields. This year the event will take place on Saturday April 7th at 9:30 AM.
Children run to the fields and gather up the marshmallows and can exchange them for a bag full of goodies. There is one "GOLDEN MARSHMALLOW" and the kid that finds it wins a special surprise.
This is one of those events that makes Miami Shores such a special place to live. The anticipation on the children's faces is priceless while they wait for the helicopter hovering above to drop the loot. A white cloud falls unto the fields and children rush to pick the marshmallows up and exchange them for their goodie bag. This is one of my favorite events in this great community.
(I will add photos after the event.)

Ok so Sunday and Monday were FANTASTIC here in the cold and bitter north. TODAY... well back to being the cold and bitter AND RAINY north.
I can't WAIT to see one of your FAMOUS rub the northern's nose in how beautiful FL is post.
SOME DAY... maybe just ONE DAY... I will post a beautiful pix of the north for YOU to drool over.
Smile,
me
Jeff - you should definitely do that! I know Craig would REALLY love to see another picture of a beautiful day!
Maggie - It's such a treat for the kiddies and the not so kiddies ( I will try to film the helicopter and will post pictures after the event)
Melissa - Please come...that would be so much fun!! plus I would love to play with a little girl (since I am surrounded by boys). You know you are welcome here anytime!
Ines ~ What a yummy photo! Just looking at it makes my mouth water...Gotta get some pretty marshmellows!
kk
Ines.... I am about ready to go to bed. But now you made me hungry. I am trying to stop snacking late at night. Gee, thanks... lol
On the other hand, as others have mentioned, this looks like fun and it's great for the kids. I agree.... Have fun, I'll be with my nieces and nephews that day, at the club. They have a few easter egg hunts for the kids. Maybe I should show them this. thanks...
George - This even made it to Ripley's Believe It or Not!, when I googled "Marshmallow Drop", I found that other communities started doing it as well. I have no idea who was the originator, but you're right - other communities should adopt it as well.....it's a lot of fun!
Kristal - I bought it at 123RealtyFree - when I saw it, I HAD to have it! Go get yourself some mallows!
Jeff - enjoy the day with your nieces and nephews, egg hunts are fun too. They also have an EGG DIVE in The Miami Shores Pool where the kids have to dive in to get eggs and also turn them in for goodies.
Ines.... run out of black ink for my name? LOL AN egg dive... creative. My nephew who is 7 1/2 loves to swim and is taking swim lessons now. That would be cool. Gee, what neat ideas, comapared to when we grew up... ;o) thanks...
Hey Ines... how about egg hunting while skydiving? Throw the eggs out of a plan and then jump out of the plane for them? okay.... so I got a breathe of semi fresh air today since it's been nice out the last few days. ciao
Jeff - LOL! I made you pink now...that's what you get! : )
I think you've had a little too much fresh air - egg hunting while skydiving!! HHHMMMMMmmmm!
Ines.... I didn't get much pink, just plenty of fresh air today. Met with a couple of business owners in town... had a late lunch in town and even talked to a restaurant owner's mother who actually took art classes at my mom's craft store back in 1991 to 1992. And that was about 25 minutes away from where I was today. Talk about a small, small world.
Skydiving..... ?? just don't be on the ground while trying to catch these eggs, unless you have a Kevlar helmet. ;o)
PS... I get red, when I blush....
Maureen - how did I miss you before? I love Sour Jelly Beans - it's what I give my 2 year old as a "potty training prize" - the poor kid is a sugar fiend!
Jeff - : )
Bob - what will they come up with next?
Rick and Ines
Cute idea... I thought of doing an easter egg hunt for the community I farm... but timing didn't work out... I do have some other wonderful things i do... Photos with Santa and pies at Thanksgiving.
Thanks for sharing...
Desiree - pies at Thanksgiving!! Wow! That's pretty awesome - how many do you bake?
mmmm....peeps...
have you ever ROASTED one like a marshmallow?? mmmm
they turn into mutant monsters first but the sugar coating makes them caramelize better...
I use my culinary torch... mmmmm
